SEARCH FOR A STAR NOVEL WRITING COMPETITION – CHOC LIT PUBLISHING & SOUNDINGS, SPONSORED BY YOUR CAT MAGAZINE

THREE BOOK DEAL UP FOR GRABS

We are delighted to announce a new Search for a Star competition in conjunction with Soundings and sponsored by Your Cat Magazine.

We’re looking for fresh new talent, debut authors!  We want stories that inspire emotions: heart stopping romances, edge of your seat thrillers, romcoms, Christmas stories, etc. However there’s one requirement,  your story must include a cat in some way.

What You Will Win!
At least one lucky winner, will win a three book deal (in eBook, paperback, audio and audio CD) with Choc Lit Publishing and Soundings. Plus Your Cat Magazine,  Britain’s bestselling cat magazine, will feature the wining entry and runners-up in the magazine.

Entry Details
Search for a Star
is about finding fresh new talent and entries will be accepted from writers not previously published or accepted by an agent or publisher. This must be new content and not published. Your manuscript must be assessed by a professional  assessment or editing service before submitting to us.

Competition submissions should be full length novels (60,000 – 100,000 words).

The top three entries will be chosen by the Tasting Panel, a panel of independent readers who help select Choc Lit’s multi award winning titles, with the editorial teams of Choc Lit Publishing and Soundings choosing the winner with input from Your Cat Magazine. Initial publication for the winning entrant is planned for autumn 2019 and will be released from either Choc Lit or Ruby Fiction (imprints of Choc Lit Publishing) and Soundings which is part of the Ulverscroft Group.

Competition entries must be made by 28 February 2019 and submitted via the website here …  The short list will be announced in April via our newsletter, Spread, and on social media. The winner will be announced soon after.

Please remember, you must have your manuscript assessed before submitting to us so that you have a chance to correct any obvious problems with your story or style. There are many organisations offering manuscript assessment services. Your competition entry will be reviewed by our Tasting Panel, independent readers who can be quite picky about badly presented manuscripts, so don’t give them an excuse to fail yours.   You must also meet our criteria as shown on the next page.

The Purrfect Pet Sitter is Littlehampton writer’s new novel

Published by Choc Lit Team on May 3, 2018 Respond Permalink

The Purrfect Pet Sitter is the new romantic comedy novel from Littlehampton author Carol Thomas, available on Kindle from Amazon, published by Ruby Fiction. It was great fun to write, she says. Carol said: “My novel tells the story of 29-year-old Lisa Blake, who suffers a loss that causes her to re-evaluate her life, return to her hometown of Littlehampton and start over as The Purrfect Pet Sitter, which may or may not be false advertising. “But, being back where she grew up, Lisa can’t escape her past. There is her ex-best friend, Felicity, and her first love Nathan Baker. Snooping at Nathan’s Facebook page seems harmless but sending him a drunken friend request wasn’t part of her plan.

Book deal is just ‘purrfect’ for author Carol as award-winning publishers roll out her new novel

Published by Choc Lit Team on February 27, 2018 Respond Permalink

News:

Author Carol Thomas is celebrating after being told her latest novel, The Purrfect Pet Sitter, is to be published by an award-winning company.

Her new book is to be published by Ruby Fiction and follows the success of her first novel, Crazy Over You.

Carol attended a “meet the authors” event staged by publishers Choc Lit in Southampton last year and part of the event included the opportunity to pitch to an editor. After a brief interview, Choc Lit editor, Lusana Taylor invited Carol to send her latest book in to go forward to a panel of readers, who enjoy women’s fiction and provide feedback before publishing decisions are made.

Three months later, Carol was excited to get a call from Lyn Vernham, director of Choc Lit. Speaking about the moment, Carol said: “I was delighted to get the call, my book had received positive feedback from the panel, and they wanted to move forward with publishing it.

The Best Boomerville Hotel – Cumbria’s answer to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, opens for business

Published by Choc Lit Team on February 27, 2018 Respond Permalink

News:

The Best Boomerville Hotel, Cumbria’s answer to the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is open for business. – in a literary sense.

Officially ‘opening its doors’ on 13 March – publication day, the fictional lake district hotel is being overwhelmed by the publishing world’s version of advance bookings as fans of what is now being called ‘Boomer lit’ pre order The Best Boomerville Hotel novel.

Boomer lit is fiction written, and marketed with the baby boomer audience specifically in mind. It features characters and topics the boomer generation – those born between 1946 and 1964 – can identify with and embrace. Not to say that Boomer lit’s appeal isn’t wider – as can be seen with the hugely popular Best Exotic Marigold Hotel film and BBC series that stemmed from the Deborah Moggach book, ‘These Foolish Things’.

The Best Boomerville Hotel is all about its namesake, a fictional hotel that plays host to a holiday retreat exclusively for guests of ‘a certain age’ wishing to stimulate both mind and body with new creative experiences. The wonderful selection of colourful individuals it inevitably attracts ensures laughs aplenty for the reader but, as with the very best of books, there can be tears too.
