Synopsis

How many positive words and exclamation marks can you fit into the space of one email?

A lot is the answer, if you’re Trudy Drinkwater. As ‘Head of People Happiness’, her cheery emails are carefully written to boost the morale of her ‘fellow finned friends’ at Pink Fish Web Design. Yay!

But, in reality, there is very little Trudy has to say ‘yay!’ about in her home life. Her marriage is all but over, she’s in a near constant battle to make her two chicken nugget loving teens eat anything vaguely nutritious, and the days when she and her husband were young lovers with big dreams seem very far away.

Can Trudy keep up the chirpy pretence of her day job, or does she really need a new start and a second chance at true happiness?

Available as an eBook and audioBook on all platforms. Paperback available from Amazon

When she’s not working in her job in marketing and PR, or writing her latest book, Gina can be found dancing everything from lindy hop to salsa, shopping (she loves clothes far too much for her own good), eating out (she hates cooking far too much for her own good), or relaxing, which generally involves reading a book someone else has written or indulging in her new hobby of learning to play the piano. She has a sneaky suspicion she may be a musical genius in the making, but isn’t about to give up the day job just yet.

Trudy’s job is Head of People Happiness. Sounds great except that her own life is falling apart, with a charming immature surfer husband, 2 fussy teenagers, a know it all mum and then a sexy new American boss who want to whisk her away to the USA. How will she cope with all that? Read this fun novel to find out and you’ll have a smile on your face throughout.

Trudy works with Aisha & Fraser (her brother-in-law) as Head of People Happiness at Pink Fish Web Design. The MD is retiring after selling Pink Fish to an American company called Yellow Panda. She lives in Worthing, has two kids (Liberty & Dylan) & has been separated from her husband Carlton for two years. Her mum turns up unexpectedly (her cruise wasn’t due to end for another two months) & asks to stay with her until the person renting her flat moves out. Trudy used to love kayaking but had an accident and nearly drowned. That was the start of the problems between her & Carlton. It doesn’t help that she has two fussy children who moan about her cooking (Dylan only wants chicken nuggets and Liberty is into whatever food fad her friend Ruby is into).
The new director of Pink Fish (CJ) looks like Obama & he and Trudy take a shine to each other when they meet. Will this finish off any reconciliation with Carlton or can things ever get back to the way they were?
Great book. It had hints of Bridget Jones (Trudy’s Mum reminds me of Bridget’s Mum) and was very funny in places. I wanted Trudy to be happy. I also liked the way that all the female characters were all strong in their own way. Very well written.

    Entertaining and amusing

Trudy Drinkwater is in charge of composing overly enthusiastic and motivating emails to her fellow employees, if only there was someone who would do the same for her in her private life. With a big birthday coming up, two monosyllabic children and an almost ex-husband, Trudy feels her life is passing by. When her shake up arrives it’s completely unexpected and she’s faced with serious decisions.

    A great book, recommended

This is a lovely book. You will laugh, sigh and almost cry along with Trudy. I was so impressed with the characters and stories that were so well written it was almost as if it was a friend telling you about her life first hand. Trudy and Carlton are divorcing but you just know they are meant to be together, but you can fully understand the reason Trudy has decided to separate. The hiccups in her work life add to the mix of emotions and both her, and her friends’ reactions are likely to have you shouting advice to the book! Read this with a cup of chocolate and a packet of biscuits and enjoy yourself.

Trudy works as HR Manager (or Head of People Happiness in this case) for Pink Fish web design, she is separated from her Husband due to his lack of responsibility, has 2 teenage children and has great friends, but something is lacking.
When Trudy’s ex Carlton starts seeing someone Trudy realises it’s time to dip her toe back in the water and goes on a date with the new CEO of the company she works at. However despite being wined and dined in an expensive restaurant something doesn’t feel right and Trudy realises that perhaps she let go of a man that despite not making decisions, gave her the things she did need.
Throw into the mix Trudy’s recently widowed Mum returning early from her cruise and you have a book which in parts made me laugh out loud (Trudy’s Mum’s dodgy text messages for example), made me shed a tear (Trudy missing her Dad) and also made me say Yay! (you’ll understand when you read the book).
Strong female characters, good men and typical teenagers made a great read and when Trudy is offered a job in America with a great salary and paid for accommodation, where she can also take the children, will she accept or will she decide to stay and decide what she wants for her future.

Loved this story, it had humour and pathos, characters I was rooting for, and a well woven plot with many elements combined into an engaging drama. Very easy to read and care about!

Trudy is about to celebrate her 40th birthday, which is huge, but with that comes thoughts about where your life is headed and choices you’ve made. Trudy’s story is one that all mom’s deal with – how to balance career, kids, aging parents, and a husband who doesn’t help out as much as you need or want him to. I enjoyed going on this journey with Trudy – lots of laughs, lots of personal reflection, and pondering the age-old question, is the grass greener on the other side? I really enjoyed this book and saw parts of me in Trudy’s character – a joy to read!
