Synopsis

Can Edie rediscover her artistic mojo and become a ‘Watercolour Wonder’?

Edie Brinkley went from rising star on the London art scene to hiding out at her gran’s cottage in the little village of Padcock after a series of unfortunate circumstances leave her almost too panicky to pick up a paintbrush.

When celebrity artist Ninian Chambers rocks up in the village to film Watercolour Wonders, a new TV art competition, Edie is horrified – especially as he played no small part in her decision to leave London.

But, with the support of the Padcock community, and one very special fellow contestant, could Ninian’s show ultimately offer a fresh start for Edie and her art career? Or will Annabel the sixties’ style stealer, along with make-up artist Tallulah and her ‘Caravan of Hell’, sabotage her summer of new beginnings?

Part of the Padcock Village series but can be read as a standalone story. Book 1 – Christmas of New Beginnings.

Available as an eBook and Audio download on all platforms. Paperback available from Amazon.

    Ideal holiday/long journey/lazy afternoon entertainment

Edie Brinkley was a minor character in the previous Padcock book, this volume concentrates on her.

Set in the fictional village of Padcock, five years ago Edie left London to look after her ailing grandmother, she now lives in her late grandmother’s cottage. In London Edie was a well known and successful artist, living in Padcock she’s stepped back from her career, no longer painting seriously now she works in the village craft shop,

Edie’s quiet life changes dramatically when a TV company arrives to film the art competition Watercolour Wonders hosted by the famous artist Ninian Chambers. Edie met Ninian years ago in London and took an instant dislike to him. To Edie’s horror, her friend Cerys has entered Edie into the competition, the resulting interest from the television programme could resurrect her art career, if she can only keep away from the unscrupulous Ninian and not lose her temper.

Kirsty Ferry’s great sense of humour is reflected through the book, resulting in a very funny read.

I was involved with this story right from the start, and had to keep reading – finishing it in one sitting. It is a bit different somehow – not a ‘standard’ romance – but most enjoyable. Edie, the heroine, is reluctantly ‘volunteered’ for a TV painting competition programme, hosted by a big name artist she has met before, being unimpressed by one of his creations. However, there is a worm in the apple of course, and nothing goes smoothly. The book ends rather splendidly though – I have no hesitation is recommending this to anyone. Another winner from Ms Ferry – her imagination really amazes me.

I love Kirsty Ferry’s books & this one made me giggle from the off (from calling Mrs Pomeroy ‘Mrs Pom-pom’ because of her hat choices to her two dogs called Arfur & Umbert).
Edie is an artist living in the village of Padcock. She works in Cerys’ Craft Shop & Organic Tea Room & sells her art there. There is a film crew about to descend on the village to film “Watercolour Challenge” but fellow artist Ninian Chambers will be the presenter. Edie & Ninian had “one hell of a history” so Edie is not best pleased she ends up being chosen to compete in the show (Cerys sends off an application form on her behalf).
She also has a flat in London but has always felt a connection to Padcock as her grandmother lived there many years ago.
This book is full of laugh out loud moments but is very heart-warming too. If you loved reading this book then you should also read Christmas of New Beginnings which focuses on Cerys.

I loved this book especially as we learned more about Edie, and why she was so abrasive and downright horrible, especially to Ninian! She is then forced to compete in a TV art competition which has many entertaining but also heart wrenching scenes. It was a really enjoyable read and I highly recommend both this novel and the talented author.

A smashing, summery romance. I loved it especially as it had some many separate romances, friendship and family threads. Edie the heroine and Ninian seem unlikely to eventually get together but this is a romance isn’t it?!
Reading about the filming of the painting contest and how everyone is involved I found fascinating. The characters all seemed to remind me of people I know. The intrigue and support were shown in equal measure. I know you will fall for Edie and join her supporters. A lighthearted romp to enjoy.

’m a huge fan of Kirsty Ferry’s romantic comedies, especially when they are as fun as Edie’s Summer of New Beginnings. Having settled in the lovely village of Padcock, the last thing artist Edie expects is to be confronted with her nemesis and fellow artist Ninian Chambers, now the star of a reality art TV show. Kirsty always creates such lovely believable characters you can’t help falling in love with them. Add humour and family intrigue and you have another Kirsty Ferry masterpiece. A real page turner not to be missed.
